Group guitar workshops are designed to help you develop essential techniques for playing guitar in any style.

  • Beginner | Intermediate (Guitar Foundations)

    Participants will learn everything needed to learn to tune a guitar, hold the instrument with proper posture and develop safe and healthy techniques for the left and right hands (fingerpicking and strumming).

    Learn basic principles of rhythm, melody (intervals/scales) and harmony (chords) in a way that is clear, digestible and easy to understand.

    WHAT WE’LL COVER:

    – Guitar Anatomy

    – Names of the strings

    – How to hold a guitar properly

    – how to tune a guitar

    – Left and right hand techniques

    – Essential guitar chords

    – How to read a guitar chord diagram

    – Fingerpicking exercises for the right hand

    – How to practice with a metronome

  • Intermediate | Advanced

    Designed for players who already have a basic foundation in guitar playing and are able to play simple songs. We will explore rhythm, strumming and finger-picking techniques, melodic and harmonic concepts that will enhance your expressive abilities on the instrument.

    WHAT WE’LL COVER:

    – Strumming and fingerpicking rhythms, patterns and techniques

    – How to practice with a metronome

    – Dynamic/volume control

    – Approaches to playing guitar scales

    – Musical expressivity

    – Concepts related to the use of the guitar for healing and meditation

What participants will need:

– A properly functioning guitar (common issues and simple repairs will be addressed in the lesson as needed)

– A guitar tuner (either physical or an app on the phone, there are many free or paid apps available)

– A metronome (physical/mechanical or digital app)

– A pencil and notebook dedicated to guitar/music study

*Participants will receive links to digital teaching materials including diagrams, spreadsheets and videos as part of the class.
**Classes may be attended virtually when available.
***The information and techniques covered in this course apply to all types of guitars – classical (nylon), steel string (acoustic or electric), etc.
